PGDM vs MBA

It’s time again that the graduate students must be facing a dilemma who wants to pursue a career in Corporate sector, that should they do MBA or PGDM? Well! It is a difficult choice and one that may ultimately decide the scope of your career over the long run. This blog tries to clear the your confusion related with the two learning programs and explains why a PGDM program is a better choice if anyone wants to make a career in the corporate sector.
Post Graduate Diploma in Management i.e. PGDM, the confusion starts when students see the term Diploma. Many of you are in the view that it is a Diploma course and not a Degree; you are right to an extent that it is a Diploma. The reason why postgraduate courses are named as PGDM is that when an institute is not affiliated to any University and conducts management courses then such Institutes/Universities cannot offer MBA degree. Of course, the basic and the most important difference between the two is that the MBA is a degree and as such can only be offered by a University or an Institute affiliated to a University, where as the PGDM is a diploma program and can be offered by autonomous Institutes that are recognised by the AICTE (The All India Council for Technical Education ). 
While there are similarities in the syllabus of both MBA and PGDM, there are some minor differences i.e. MBA is more inclined towards theoretical aspects of management and is more exam-oriented on the other hand PGDM focuses on building soft skills and is industry-oriented. It prepares students for the job, since an autonomous institute doesn’t follow university standards, it is free to change the syllabus as per industry standards and can change in business environment. Also PGDM course will give you an industry exposure which MBA can’t.
